my christmas cinema

There are certain movies--"Christmas" or not--that just spread holiday cheer all over my heart. I have a bit of a ritualistic lineup, starting with Elf on Thanksgiving day. Anytime in between then and the 25th, I watch Little Women & Meet Me in St. Louis (two epic films that do no more than brush past Christmas. But still. Can Christmas be Christmas without Judy Garland singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"??).

On my birthday week (which just so happens to be this week), I watch Julie & Julia. A tradition that only started last year. Because that's when the film came out. Christmas doesn't even happen in that movie, but I've linked it with the holiday because Julie turns 30 in that movie and I turned 30 last year when I watched that movie and it just filled me up with the kind of hope I think I'll need this decade.

To top things off, I watch It's A Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve. That's my favorite movie tradition of all. Dave and I usually stay up till 1am to finish it because we start late and it's a long movie. But it's my favorite. Because it is a wonderful life. And humans are basically good and kind. Especially at Christmas.

So, to all you basically kind humans that I know and love: Merry Christmas!

*What's your Christmas movie lineup??

My favorite Christmas movie of all time is Holiday Inn. I could watch it over and over and over. We also love to watch Singin' in the Rain even though it's not really a Christmas movie.

In my husband's family they always do Star Wars or Lord of the Rings movie parties during the holidays, but I'm pretty much over that.

My family always watched A Christmas Story, but I'm pretty much over that too.

My guilty pleasure is She's the Man. Not Christmas, but I got it for Christmas one year, so I sometimes watch it at Christmas time.

And I like to watch the Santa Clause with the kids.

Some of my favorites:

Home Alone (There are too many gems in that movie to not watch it.)

A Christmas Story (Same)

It's a Wonderful Life (I agree, Lacy...it's the best.)

One Magic Christmas (This is one of my mom's faves. It's kind of sad, but good.)

Mr. Krueger's Christmas (Pure, 100% cheese, but I love Jimmy Stewart in everything he does.)

I think I could get on the Elf bandwagon.

Oh, I forgot one: Miracle on 34th Street!

Hear, Hear! "Miracle on 34th Street" for sure, but only the Natalie Wood version. My mom started us watching that because Natalie Wood looks so much like a little Grandma Lynn. I am with you, Lacy, about Elf on Thanksgiving. I simply cannot help myself. Anytime that movie is on a random cable channel, I'll tune in, even tho we own the DVD. I had no idea you were a fan. I think you need one of my "Code of the Elves" embroidered pillows. I'm thinking about making a matching set with "The Four Food Groups", too. LOVE. Don't you wish they would publish that Elf book for real? "It's a Wonderful Life" and Mr. Krueger, for sure, because I love me some Jimmy Stewart, if only for when he says to Jesus, "You're my best friend!" LOOOVE! Merry Christmas! Miss you guys.
