...also happens to be the first book I've read in 2010. No matter. It totally changed my life.Mostly, because it led me to Women for Women International--a place where, for $27 a month, you can "provide your sister (living in a war-torn country) with the financial assistance to aid her in learning new job skills and rights awareness, while also giving her hope and emotional support to rebuild her self-esteem and her life."
The authors highlight a lot of other fantastic organizations and ideas. This was just my favorite.
A while back, I posted about an NYTimes Magazine article based on the book. A sort of Half the Sky Cliff's Notes. I actually recently learned that my Dad forwarded this article on to his sportsline subscribers, which sort of surprised me. Maybe it shouldn't have.
After all, "empowerment is contagious, accomplished person by person and spreading village by village...challenges are insurmountable only until the moment that they're surmounted."
Pass it on!

Can't wait to add this to my list of reads!
Lacy, you already made a difference several months ago. After forwarding the link to my subscriber base, I had a BYU-Idaho professor say that he and several other professors meet monthly to try and help causes they find worthy. After reading the link, they signed up for the $27. As you know, most people think I am shallow, including this guy, who said he was surprised that I would step outside my sports box into more meaningful thoughts and dialogue. I am still not very comfortable swimming in the deep end of the pool. If you remember, that is why you encouraged me blog, but make sure I stick to the light-weight stuff with which I am more familiar.
I'm trying out a new profile name for my blog. What do you think?
This sounds so cool! Thanks for the tip on the book and the organization. P.S. I miss getting to see you at bookclubs. We need to meet again just so we can see the SV folks.
