committed: one woman's compulsion to buy all things elizabeth gilbert

Without doubt, the best time to make a Target run when you've got two kids under three is between the hours of 9-11 pm. This frees one up to peruse the women's clothing and linger in the book section. And tonight, between said late shopping hours in said book section, I came across Elizabeth Gilbert's new book: Committed. For 30% off.

I'm pretty sure I blogged about how much I adored Eat, Pray, Love. I know. It's all new-agey and stuff. And maybe that's why I loved it so much. All I know is that it was my favorite book of 2009. It spoke to me. And when a book that speaks to me presents a sequel to itself, well, I buy it. In hardback. Because patience wasn't on my list of resolutions (neither was this book. But remember that bit about the karmic power of books to find me?).

So, even though I had a shopping list that I'd vowed not to waver from, I put this book in the cart. And then everything else I bought after that was miraculously on sale. Which I obviously took for a sign.

Thank you, 2010.

I think I said B4 that I avoided her book because Opah was in loe with he and EG came off as a selfish wench when telling her story. But I havebeen persuaded to give her another chance, especially after seeing her on the PBS series I just blogged about. She had some good things to say. So let's race--I'll go find EPL, and you read the new book and review it--you know, in all that sspare time we have as moms...

I heard her talking about this on the BBC the other afternoon! Did you know that I read EPL because of you and also LOVED it (except the f words of course).

Can't wait to read this one!

T, I didn't know you'd read it. We'll have to get together and discuss! And yes, those f words can be such a stick in the mud...thankfully, I've been desensitized to such atrocities by a lifetime of grimy media. :)

Can't wait to hear what you think! And that reminds me that I wanted to read Eat, Pray, Love so I will get on that. Going to the library tomorrow. BTW: you are so right about going to Target alone! I can find great stuff when I'm in the zone, with the kids, it's a frenzy!

I'm in the minority, but I didn't love EPL. Really at all. Well, okay, except for one teeny little passage that I actually blogged about here: http://www.salenalettera.com/2008/07/absolute-beauty-of-it.html

Two books I did LOVE though and would recommend to EVERY woman I come across are "The Elegant Gathering Of White Snows" and "Dancing Naked At Dawn", both by Kris Radish.

As a woman, I felt like she was writing my exact thoughts. And I was like, "how does she know???" through both books.

My mom got me Eat, Pray, Love for Christmas and I am currently in the middle of it. So far I LOVE it, and am planning on reading committed. I'm excited to see how you like it.
